    • Events are open to all Connecticut amateur athletes (or out of state amateur athletes belonging to a Connecticut Tae Kwon Do School) who register with the Nutmeg State Games Office. The Nutmeg State Games reserves the right to cut the competition in the event of over subscription.

    • Subject to change based on number of participants!

    • 8:00am – 8:45am  : Competitors 11 & younger register

    • 9:00am – 9:30am   : Opening Ceremony

    • 9:30am – 1:15pm  : 11 & younger *No Head Contact* (Forms & Sparring)

    • 12:00pm – 2:00pm: Competitors 12 & older register

    • 1:15pm – 2:30pm: Mixed-age Events (Black Belt Forms)

    • 2:30pm – 6:00pm: 12 & older (Forms & Sparring)
       

  • TOURNAMENT INFO:  
     

  • Poomse (Form) Competition:

    • Open to anyone ages 6 or older.

    • Date: The event will be held on Sat., Aug. 8th
       

  • Competition Divisions:

    • COMBINED GENDERS

    • Division I: White, Yellow, Orange, and Green Belts.

    • Division II: Purple, Blue, Red, and Brown Belts.

    • Division III: Black Belts.

    • NOTE: The divisions are not divided into sub-categories by age and sex.
       

  • Forms: Competitors will perform WTF (Olympic) recognized forms only.

  • White Belt  - Brown Belt: Taeguek or Palgwe poomse (forms).

  • Black Belts: Koreyo, Guemgang, TaeBaek, or PyongWon forms.

Scoring:

  • Competitors will be judged on the following: concentration, balance, focus, grace, strength, snap, high kicks & knowledge of the form.

  • Scores will range from 5 to 10 points.

  • Competitors with highest total scores win.

  • In the event of a tie, the Referee / Judge will organize a head to head rematch (maximum of the 3 competitors at a time.)

  • Placing: Three 1st,  Three 2nd and Three 3rd places – One first, second, and third place winner per Division.

Elimination Rounds:

  • All Compete

  • Select Top 10 from the Division

  • Top 10 perform again to select Top 3

 MANDATORY EQUIPMENT / ATTIRE:

  • Standard V-Neck White Tae Kwon Do Uniforms only  

Sparring Competition:
Open to any age (12 & Under - No Head Contact, Only Body) 

Competition Divisions: 4-male; 4-female.

Athlete must supply their own equipment and be accompanied by a coach.

Division I: Fin/Fly.
Male: 127 lbs and under.
Female: 112 lbs and under.

Division II: Feather/Lightweight.
Male: 128-147 lbs.
Female: 113-129 lbs.

Division III: Middleweight.
Male: 148-177 lbs.
Female: 130-151 lbs.

Division IV: Heavyweight.
Male: 178 lbs and over.
Female: 152 lbs and over.

NOTE: The divisions are not divided into sub-categories by age.
NOTE: The divisions are sex-specific, i.e. females and males will not spar against one another. 


Sparring Format:
 

  • Free sparring.

  • 2 – 1 minute rounds.

  • Semi final & Final: 2 – 2 minute rounds.

  • Must keep winning to continue competing.

  • 30 second warning prior to end of each round.

  • 30 second break between rounds.

 
Rules & Regulations: 

  • According to WTF Rules* – competitors 12 years old and older may utilize controlled kicks to the head in sparring competitions.

  • Competitors will completely and strictly adhere to WTF (Olympic) approved Rules and Regulations.

  • Specific penalties and disqualification are possible if rules and not followed. (See scoring.)

 Scoring:

  • Referees / Judges keep track of points scored for personal use in determining the winner of each match.

  • 1 point for the (WTF) contact to the body area.

  • 2 points for a controlled kick to the head.

  • Kicks to the head must utilize light contact.

  • WTF Rules

  • Kicks to the head must use “light contact” to ensure the safety of the competitors (not the case in the Olympics).

  • Competitor must be in absolute control of his/her own body and thus, of the kick.

  • Competitors using excessive force/contact in will incur the appropriate penalty.

  • “Golden Score” / “Sudden Death” to be used to break ties (Point Sparring).

Placing: 8- 1st,  8- 2nd and 8- 3rd places – One first, second, and third place winner per Division, for both males and females.


MANDATORY EQUIPMENT / ATTIRE:
 

  • Standard V-Neck White Tae Kwon Do Uniforms only.

  • Standard WTF Approved Sparring Gear only:

  • Chest guard (Hogo).

  • Headgear (no cage, no protective eyewear).

  • Mouth guard.

  • Arm guards - White, cloth type only.

  • Shin guards. - White, cloth type only. Must include instep pad, covering the top of the foot.

  • Cup (males only).

  • Proper personal hygiene must be observed. Clean uniform, Clean body & Short, clean nails.

 

REGISTRATION INFORMATION & FEES

  • Registration/insurance fees total $65.00 for one event, each additional event is $5.00

  • You may register On-Site the day of the event for an additional $10.00 fee.

  • All registration/processing/insurance fees are non-refundable and must be paid before an athlete is eligible for competition

  • Admission $5.00 adult, $3.00 student and senior citizen
